Juan Castro made his first start for the Minnesota Twins since hurting his right wrist while playing for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic. Castro went 1-for-3 with an RBI on Monday in a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. "I wouldn't even call it an injury," Castro said of the bruised hamate bone, which has healed. |
Left-hander Zach Duke couldn't have made it look much easier during an outstanding rookie season with the Pittsburgh Pirates. This spring has taught him there may be some tough times, too. Duke had another rough outing by giving up eight runs, seven earned, and 11 hits over four-plus innings and the Toronto Blue Jays overcame six homers by the Pirates for a 9-8 victory Sunday. |
The Jays might start the season with RHP A.J. Burnett on the disabled list because of an issue with his right elbow. There is no damage to the elbow, but the Jays will take it slow and easy with their $55 million acquisition after he experienced pain in the elbow March 18, which was caused by scar tissue tearing. --LF Frank Catalanotto missed time this spring both because of the World Baseball Classic and a subsequent shoulder injury. As a result, Catalanotto has had just 16 at-bats this spring and has managed but two hits (.125). Still, he's not worried about being behind by the time the season opens. "It's coming around," Catalanotto said of his stroke. "I'm confident that it will be there on Opening Day (April 4). |
